In my life, photography is a way to share the inspiration I draw from nature with anyone who is willing to take a moment and enjoy it. Many things inspire me - art, stories, the occasional warm cinnamon roll, but little motivates me the way the sight of a unique never-seen-before sky can. Landscape photography is my never-ending race to see these rare moments in nature while striving to capture the emotions and awe it can bring to so many.
Beginning Photography
A tiny camera built into an iPod Touch and an untrained eye for color was how photography found its way into my life when I was 16 hiking around rural Wisconsin. True today as much as then, I didn’t do it solely for the art of photography, rather, I did it for the people. Bringing the photos back home and showing my family and friends where I had explored while seeing the spark of excitement build in motivated me to get my first camera and teach myself the basics. Today as a result, having since seen the most extraordinary sunsets shining through Yosemite Valley, meeting the most wonderful people at 3am watching the stars through a dessert arch on top of a cliff, and getting completely drenched deep into The Narrows slot canyon, I am so very glad that I once chose to take some fun photos along a hike through the woods.
My favorite method of shooting has always been a clean, telephoto landscape. Simple details, basic color theory, and absolutely no distractions. Taking what some might see as a wide-open panoramic view and narrowing it down to the most fundamental points of what makes that landscape unique.
